Pride Divides, Humility Unites

This sermon examines the theme of division and unity through the lens of 1 Kings 12, where King Rehoboam’s prideful leadership divides Israel. Rehoboam rejected wise counsel, leading to national division, while Jeroboam’s distrust of God caused further spiritual decline. The message highlights how pride divides, but humility unites, contrasting flawed kings with Jesus—the humble King who carries our burdens (Matthew 11:28-30). Just as history is filled with division—wars, segregation, and broken relationships—Jesus brings reconciliation through the cross (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). The call is clear: embrace humility, seek unity, and live reconciled to God and others.

Wickedness leads to Wrath

This sermon explores the progression of sin leading to God’s judgment, focusing on the wickedness of Sodom (Genesis 13:13). It highlights their sins—unnatural relations, pride, gluttony, and unrepentance—and emphasizes that wickedness invites God’s wrath (Genesis 18:20-21; 19:13). The message warns of the coming judgment (Romans 5:9; Revelation 21:8) and the believer’s responsibility to call others to repentance (Psalm 1:4-6; Matthew 3:2). Ultimately, salvation is found only through a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ (John 3:16-22), just as Lot was spared through his connection with Abraham.

Rest & Obedience

Drawing from Hebrews 4:12, this sermon emphasizes the power and precision of God’s Word, which is “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword.” Through personal testimony, it illustrates how God’s Word pierces hearts, revealing the thoughts and intentions within. The Israelites' disobedience kept them from entering God’s promised rest, a warning for us today. The message highlights three key truths: the Word is relevant and powerful, rigorous and precise, and nothing is hidden from God’s sight. Listeners are challenged to respond with faith and obedience, entering God’s eternal rest through Jesus Christ.

Fields, Valleys & Tables

We can develop a skewed view of God if we base his character on our experiences absent from the teaching of the Bible. Throughout his life, King David experienced many trials and triumphs. Led by the Holy Spirit, he wrote Psalm 23 as he reflected on the faithfulness and goodness of God.

From Rejected to Accepted

The story of King David accepting Mephibosheth into his family displays the love that Jesus has for the rejected.

Taming the Tongue

Our words can be used as a tool to build each other up or a weapon to tear each other down. How are you using your tongue?

Remove the Rot
